Frequently Asked Questions:

Below you will find answers to many of our frequently asked questions. If you don't see your question here, please feel free to email us at info@yvbaoregon.com or attend one of our informational meetings prior to tryouts.

General Club Questions:

How many teams will you be taking this year?
We will be taking teams in 12U, 13U, 14U, 15U, 16U, and 18U. The number of teams in each group usually depends on the number of players we have at tryouts for each age group. We expect to take 3-12U, 1-13U, 3-14U, 1-15U, 3-16U, and 2-18U teams for 2016/2017 Season.
How many times a week do your teams practice?
Each team has a minimum of two practices a week, with some top teams having a third positional practice. Each practice is 1.5 to 2 hours in length.
How many tournaments does each team go to?
Each team has a minimum of two tournaments a month starting in January. All teams do CEVA Power League (one tournament a month). The second tournament each month can either be a travel related tournament (tournaments like Presidents Day, Crossroads or Emerald City) or can be a local single day tournament. Travel is usually reserved for top teams in each age group.
What do my club dues pay for?
Your club dues pay for everything associated with club volleyball, except any travel related expenses for your player to attend tournaments. Items club dues cover:

CEVA Power League Fees
Tournament Entry Fees
Practice Facilities
Full Nike Uniform Package
Coache(s) Salary
Coache(s) Travel

Tryout Questions:

Do you make cuts at tryouts?
Yes. We evaluate players for each of our teams and provide offers for specific teams. We limit teams to a maximum of 12 players, so cuts typically have to be made.
What can I expect of tryouts?
Players will be run through a series of drills and skills to assess their proficiency in each position and skill set. They will be moved around from court to court in an effort to compare them against other players. At the end of tryouts, players will either be offered a spot on one of our YVBA teams, given a wait list offer, or cut all together. We try our best to be discrete about team placement, but due to the nature of competitive tryouts this is not always possible.
How do I know what age group my child should try out for?
The age groups are defined by USA Volleyball as the age the player will be ON OR AFTER September 1st of the current year. So for instance if your player turns 12 on September 15th of the current year, they can play in the 12U category. However if they are already 12 yrs old before Sept 1st of this year, they would be required to try out for 14U. Click Here For Detailed Descriptions
Do I need a CEVA membership to try out?
Yes, all players are required to have a CEVA membership prior to tryouts. We require a CEVA Membership, Medical Release, and YVBA Tryout Registration Form.
How do I get a CEVA Membership
Whether you're new to club volleyball or returning for another year, you'll need a CEVA/USA Volleyball Membership for the upcoming season. Membership is a way for CEVA to verify that you are eligible to play and provides secondary insurance for any injuries at sanctioned events (including sanctioned practices). Full memberships are good throughout all regions of USA Volleyball and allows participation in national tournaments. Memberships are valid September to October 31st of the following year.

What is CEVA's new commitment policy?
As you've probably heard, CEVA changed their commitment policy again this year. In their new policy, they have removed the grace period of 3-days to sign for the club of your choice. This season, clubs can ask that you make a decision to sign or not-sign your team offer before you leave tryouts. So be sure to make an informed decision prior to tryouts, so you know which club you'd like to play for.
